F.A.Q.

Where are you located?
Bodh Salon & Photography is located at 115 Woolwich Street in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. We travel within the local area which includes Guelph, Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Rockwood, Fergus and other surrounding cities. Locations outside a 50 km radius are subject to a travel fee.

Who do you photograph?
We photograph families, children, maternity, newborns, babies and couples with a lifestyle approach. With a background in hair and fashion, Jake specializes in contemporary portraits. We are also available for headshots and commercial work.

What kind of lighting do you use?
All of our outdoor sessions are shot utilizing natural light.
Our studio utilizes artificial lighting using strobes. This enables us to shoot all year long, even during the winter and is a great backup for rainy days.

Are you a legal business?
Bodh Salon & Photography is an established and legal business. We charge 13% HST in accordance with provincial tax requirements. We are also fully insured, including two-million dollar liability and also equipment insurance. Our salon & studio is inspected annually by the city of Guelph by-law, fire code and health & safety.

When is the best time to schedule our session, and where will our session take place?
We usually book almost all of our outdoor sessions from May to early November. We aim to schedule sessions either in the morning or late afternoon/early evening to get that warm, beautiful and very flattering natural light. If this time isn’t convenient, sometimes we can try an different time of day as long as the location has lots of open shade. In case of bad weather, we try to reschedule.

If you’re booking a maternity, couples, family or children’s session, we have several favourite Guelph & area locations that translate  beautifully for your photos.

Lifestyle newborn sessions are a great choice for clients who want more candid, true-to-life photographs of the early days with their new baby. Lifestyle sessions are best suited for homes with lots of natural light.

Contemporary Portraits and Headshots are most often shot in our studio where we have access to consistent lighting and backdrops. In spring/summer/fall months, we can accommodate outdoor bookings for these packages. Please let us know your preference when booking.

How long before our images are ready? What happens at the Ordering Appointment?
At the time of booking, we will also schedule your Ordering Appointment which will occur 3-4 weeks after your session at our Guelph studio. At the Ordering Appointment you will be shown your final image proofs, and then create your order. It is a great opportunity to see samples of products and for us to assist you in choosing the best products for showcasing your images. Clients, along with their spouse/partner and other decision makers, are encouraged to attend as your order needs to be submitted and paid for in full at this time.
When is the best time to photograph newborns, babies and children?
Newborn lifestyle sessions are best booked when baby is 6-14 days old.

The next best age is when baby is sitting upright unassisted, usually around 7 months old. After that we recommend another session when they are walking, usually 12-14 months.

We recommend parents of toddlers approach their session with an open mind. Be ready for lots of funny noises and bribing in an attempt to get your little one engaged with our camera. Toddlers love to play and we aim to get them interacting with their family.

How far in advance should I book my family session?
We appreciate 2-3 weeks notice in order to book and plan for any of our standard sessions.

How far in advance should I book my maternity session?
Please aim to book your maternity session anywhere from 33 – 37 weeks. By this time in your pregnancy, your bump will be quite visible. If you’re pregnant with twins, you should probably think about booking from 28-33 weeks.

How far in advance should I book my newborn session?
Please book your newborn session while still pregnant. We will pencil in your due date, and when the baby arrives, we will set up the session at that time. In fact, please add us to the list of people you call/email when the baby is born!
